Ipadded into the kitchen, the rich aroma of fresh coffee enveloping me like a warm hug. As I reached for a mug, muscular arms suddenly encircled my waist from behind. I was startled for a second before melting back against the firm planes of Maximus's chest. He nuzzled his face into the crook of my neck, his breath tickling my skin and sending delicious shivers down my spine.

"Good morning, my little bookworm," Max cooed, his deep voice still rough with sleep. I couldn't stop the happy blush and smile that spread across my face. The press of his horns against my hair was becoming a familiar, comforting sensation. Hard to believe it had only been a couple months since this roguishly handsome demon had turned my life upside down in the most wonderful way.

“Good morning, you little devil,” I playfully teased back, reaching up to tug on one of his ebony locks. "Want some coffee before I head out?"

"Noooo, don't leave," Max pouted, his arms tightening around me as if he could keep me here by sheer force of will. "Let's have some fun first. It'll help me miss you less when you're at work."

I laughed, feeling my resolve crumble in the face of his persuasive charms. Saying no to him was becoming increasingly difficult, especially with him pressing against me so deliciously, his strong body promising all sorts of wicked delights.

"Wish I could, but we got a new shipment of books donated from this really amazing estate," I explained, trying to stay focused even as his fingers wandered. "The owner collected them and left them to us in his will. I think there might be some 17th century religious doctrine included that might be the first publishing from a British publisher and..."

I trailed off, suddenly realizing that Max had gone suspiciously still behind me. Twisting in his arms, I looked up to find him staring down at me with a slightly dazed expression, a sheepish grin tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"And I've lost you, haven't I?" I sighed, shaking my head fondly. Max laughed, the sound rich as honey.

"Sorry love, you know I adore it when you get all excited about your books," he said, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "I just get a bit... distracted admiring you."

I rolled my eyes but couldn't stop the pleased flush that heated my cheeks. Extricating myself from his embrace with great reluctance, I poured myself a mug of coffee and took a fortifying sip. As much as I wanted to stay here in his arms all day, duty called.

"Tell you what," I said, an idea sparking. "Why don't you come by the library later? I can show you some of the new collection. Maybe even find a few tomes on demonology for you to critique."

Max's eyes lit up, his grin turning wicked. "It's a date."
